Thanks Tried at Lucent which took me to Agere Systems for the driver which had nothing to do with this nifty generic winmodem. Compaq others also use the same chip but their drivers did not work either. Hey I rebuild units for a living and this driver was a pain. The one provided on the floppy and CD do not even work with Win98. They are the 5.6x and below versions. This is the 5.92 version. Generic chipsets drive me nukkin futs Thanks again. Saved the day for me.

It worked great with the onboard sound card of a Compaq Presario 2240 and Win 98SE. A fresh 98se installation did enable sound but only thru external speakers not thru the builtin ones. After I installed this driver the builtin JBL speakers worked very well.

Does NOT work with the HP Pavilion 533W. Still seeking a file named usbehci.sys which is not included with the driver I downloaded. This is for installing on a bare machine installing XP Pro.
