I had the same experience as KW Win 98 didn't automatically recognize the driver. But it worked fine when I went ahead and installed it anyway.

Some difficulty fully uninstalling a newer driver. Once that was done done this one failed during Setup but recovered with a subsequent manual reinstall. It was then perfectly stable.Packard Bell 2.1 gig Celeron system NEC SiS650 mobo about 20022003 vintage. XP Home SP2.

This Conexant56.zip driver does not work on Windows ME. I installed the GVC Model 1156IR12 modemwith a Conexant CX1125211 chip. I burned theConexant56.zip driver unzipped on a CD and thenstarted the computer. Windows ME detected the modem but selected the Conexant MW560C1 driver from the driver CD as the correct driver for this GVC F1156IR12 modem. Both Emachine and Rockwell MW560C1 drivers were on the driver CD. The modem installed using the MW560C1 driver.
